Why Another Strait

A little history will shed some light on why I picked "Another Strait" as my websites title.  I was born Donald Brian Strait on April 19, 1952 in El Paso Tx.  A month earlier in Poteet Tx, a small town 8 hours farther east, George Harvey Strait was born on May 18, 1952.  As far as I know we are not related.  George Strait grew up in Texas and was to become one of the most renowned and adored country western stars of all time, while my future took a decidedly different turn. 

 

I'll never be a George Strait, however I am "Another Strait".

 

My family wasn't long for Texas, just passing through.  Dad was a naval radar engineer during the war (WWII), and after the war, a civilian installing, fixing, servicing, and training people at Air Force radar installations.  There were a lot of them spread out all over the US, Pacific, and Europe.  To say we moved a lot would be an understatement.  As an example my 5 years younger brother was born in Germany.  On top of that my mom was Canadian, so often while dad was away traveling for long periods, we would spend time with my relatives in BC and Alberta.

Growing up in so many different places gave me a life of constant adventure that could fill a book.  But to give you some Idea of what it was like, here are some examples of my education.  I went to first grade in Abbotsford, BC (Canada).  Much of my grade school was in Los Angeles.  I spent one winter at a middle school in Prince George, BC.  High School was a riot; freshman year: Caldwell, Idaho, sophomore: Bismarck, ND, junior: Oahu, Hawaii, senior: Sacramento, Calif.

While I taught myself to play the Guitar in my early 20's, I did not get serious about writing music or playing gigs till after retiring several years ago.
